From workplace to workspace - why the workplace of the future must be able to do more

A workplace is a place where you work.
A workspace is a place that actively supports the different situations people need to succeed in - and gives them a reason to choose the physical community.
The difference is important.
When concentrated work can be done at home, on the train or elsewhere, the office can no longer be content with just offering a desk and a meeting room. It must contribute something that is more difficult to create alone.
It can be community, identity, learning, spontaneous sparring, access to people and tools, or the feeling of being part of something bigger.

From one form of work to several
The workday rarely consists of one activity. It can include immersion, short digital meetings, development, confidential conversations, social contact and collaboration in different groups.
If all activities have to take place at the same desk, friction will arise.
A strategic workspace offers options:
places for concentration and undisturbed work
space for conversations that do not disturb others
areas for development, visualization and joint decisions
social zones that don't feel forced
Transitions that make it easy to orient yourself and change activities - a physical identity that makes brand and culture noticeable.
The office should not compete with the home
The home office often benefits from peace, flexibility and convenience.
The physical workspace should therefore not try to be an inferior home. It should offer something different: access to relationships, energy, shared direction, learning and experiences that are difficult to create through a screen.
This doesn't necessarily require more furniture or more square meters. But it does require the company to prioritize based on what the employees and the business actually need.
Start with these questions
1. Why should people choose to come in person?
2. What activities work best with others?
3. What can the home offer that the workplace should not copy?
4. Where does friction arise today?
5. How should the company's brand and culture be experienced in the space?
A workspace is not a specific style. It is a strategic framework that fits the specific company.
Should we change what your workplace needs to be able to do in the future?
